We hope you and yours have escaped the Swine Flu pandemic sweeping the country. Luckily winter is over and the weather is changing, so infection rates are dropping off. Until next year, that is.

What have you been getting up to in August? We hope you remembered to appreciate and spend time with all those of the fairer sex in your lives. (Your 4x4 is a she, right?) Don’t forget to send us your photographs and adventure stories.

Three Cambridge graduates have been given a Land Rover Defender 110 and a cheque for the equivalent of R140 000 by the Royal Geographical Society in London for a 32 000km expedition through 31 countries to raise awareness of the potential effects of climate change along the Atlantic coastline. New Discovery put through its paces

The new Discovery 4 is more a reworking of its predecessor rather than an all-new model. A chance to try the car over difficult terrain in the Scottish borders, climbing and descending extreme muddy slopes, fording streams and rivers flowing across loose, rocky surfaces, and negotiating just about every other obstacle imaginable, showed that there have been further improvements to the car's off-road ability.
