Dear X-Club member
Despite the now-uncontested fact that climate change is very real, our cabinet has refused to cut down on carbon emissions, saying it will impede South Africa’s economic growth. So time may be running out to get to those coastal areas before they are submerged by the rising seas! (We wish we were kidding.)
Next time you are out and about somewhere really deliciously rough and untouched, Garmin wants you to take notes to help them improve their mapsets. See the story below on how to get involved.

As usual, we congratulate our competition winners and remind our readers that all X-Club members are eligible for prizes – for photos, recipes, suggestions, and just for belonging to the club. Click HERE to see all the lucky winners.
All the best.

Garmin needs you to help improve their mapsets by sending them data for hiking and mountain bike trails, off-road motorcycle and 4x4 routes (in South and Southern Africa) and places of interest, especially in game reserves. For guidelines on how to collect data, click HERE.
SA refuses to cut emissions |
Our government has embarrassingly refused to clamp down on carbon emissions because this would ‘undermine our growth’. The cabinet ministers clearly haven’t heard about how climate change is going to undermine the world’s growth, if we don’t put a stop to our irresponsible actions. Take a deep breath before you read more HERE.
| Byt vas in your 4x4! |
The Windhoek Lager 4x4 vasbyt competition was recently held, proving the appropriateness of its name. The one-day competition had ten gruelling obstacles to tackle on the newly designed Trax and Trails 4x4 Club course. The final leg of the 4x4 vasbyt competition is scheduled for 23 December 2009 at Dune 7 near Walvis Bay. Click HERE to find out more.
SUV seats made out of a whale's what? |
|
What would you pay to have seats covered in leather from a whale’s penis? R5 seems too much for something so grotesque, but maybe that’s just me. The Dartz Prombron Monaco Red Diamond Edition SUV is priced at a cool £1-million (R12.4-million) and is fitted with the aforementioned leather seats, along with diamond encrusted instrument gauges and many more weird and wonderful features. Off Road Driver Training - the way forward |
|
Earlier this year the National Off-Road Work group handed over its strategy document to the Minister of the Environment in a signing ceremony held at parliament. The strategy was developed over the last two years in conjunction with key stakeholders and DEAT. In order for one to venture off-road in a sensitive environment one has to undergo training against unit standards developed by experts and submitted to SAQA for registration. So, what does it take to become a 4x4 instructor, and an accredited training provider? Click HERE to read more.
